“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I do not have it at the beginning “
From the start of the college phase as a Civil undergraduate at NIT JALANDHAR, I had been good at studying with a CGPI of 8.08 and remained in the list of top 10 scorers. During college time, I had faced many difficulties only in one subject, which is Computer programming, where I scored 27 out of 90. Thanks to the professor who gave me passing marks.
From the 6th semester onwards, I started preparing for GATE 2018. I joined Engineer Academy, mastered some subjects from there, and remaining from myself.
In May, I was diagnosed with Tuberculosis, it took me about 6-7 months to recover. Till mid-October 2017, I have completed 80-85% of the syllabus of GATE, but in Oct- Nov, the worst phase of my college life had arrived, I was in depression due to some reason; not interested in talking to my close friends.
It took me about 40 days to come out of it, after which I tried to make improvements in myself. Thanks for giving me a lesson that “friendships are not always equal from the opposite side as you expect.
I was getting good marks as well as a rank in ace engineering academy. I Secured AIR-529 in GATE- 2018. The dream of selection in PSU was shattered due to my bad performance.
I was left with 3 options
1- Join the L&T
2- admission in Top IIT for further study
3 – Preparation for ESE or GATE 2019
So analyzing my capabilities decision, I decided to prepare only for ESE-2019 as there are uncertainties in GATE.
From the start of preparation, I always thought that “My first attempt Should be my last attempt.“
After the completion of B. Tech, I got enrolled in Made Easy General studies batch. As the syllabus of G.S is limitless so I decided to study only class notes. The technical subject I prepared myself. In October, I started giving Made Easy test series, scored only 33,37,42 in technical out of 150 during the first three-test series. I started working on my weaknesses, which provided an improvement, after which I had scored above 50% in technical.
For the preliminary exam, I reached earlier than the scheduled time at the center. In paper-1, I was not able to handle the pressure. The number of attempted questions were not good, so paper 1 was not as well as I expected, and literally, I cried after the exam. Then I motivated myself for paper-2, and it went good as I expected.
I Secured an AIR 627 in GATE 2019, the same story as GATE 2018.
The G.S paper did not go good, so I started to do serious preparation for the Mains exam. I joined Made Easy Mains batch. There I Scored 163, 157 marks during the first two tests. I worked hard and tried to find out my weak topics and chose never to give up. In all Mains tests, I was always under 100 Ranks, and in all mock tests, I was in the top 20.
On 23 June, around 11:00 pm my right-hand thumb was stuck in the door. I am not able to write properly, even a single line for a few days, but my inner strength and belief in God helped me in managing and writing the Mains exam despite a thumb injury. The Mains exam went good as expected but made some silly mistakes in some questions.
The schedule of the interview had come, My Roll no is at the top of the list that is on 09 September. The interview went good but got 104 Marks; the chairperson may be expecting something else from me.

The result was announced on 25 October at 7:12 pm, I was in the gym at that time. My friend texts me AIR-66 But didn’t mention whose rank is these ( he has also appeared for interview ). My heartbeat stopped for a moment, I downloaded the pdf, but I didn’t have guts to search my name and Roll no., so I tried to scroll the list slowly and saw Gurwinder Singh AIR-66. I left the gym at that moment and called my papa, who always supported me and gave me the freedom to do what I want.
