The Director of NIT Warangal informed that: – National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD), had a Memorandum of Understanding with one of the academic collaborations to admit our current 3rd-year B.Tech. Students for direct Ph.D. entry at IITD.
As part of MoU, IIT Delhi is inviting applications from the students having CGPA till the end of the 5th semester for shortlisting purposes considering the current delay, their selection will be subjected to meeting the 8.00 CGPA requirement when the 6th semester is completed.
The administration requested to give wide publicity to all the current 3rd-year students and collect their CVs. Students shall prepare their CVs as per the information and guidelines provided in the document, “Early admission to Ph.D. at IIT Delhi,” attached to this mail.
The HoDs are requested to collect the softcopies of the CVs of the interested students by 21st May 2020 and to forward the same to IIT Delhi by 22nd for further processing.
IIT DELHI Director, RamGopal Rao in Nov 2019 said, “Students will get BTech degree from their respective NITs While They will be enrolled in Ph.D. from IIT DELHI”. Students need to have 8 CGPA to apply for this and interested in research. They will sit for an interview which will be the deciding factor for selection.

IIT Delhi is implementing idea of getting NIT students into IITs was in discussion for last one year. In one of the meetings of the IIT Council held in November, the initiative was again discussed in the council, following which IIT-Delhi decided to implement the new admission policy.
Students will be required to spend a minimum of six months or complete a project with the IIT during their last year of B.Tech before they can start with their PhD programmes.
There are 31 NITs in nation out of which many are considered equivalent to that of IITs But When It comes the research area they are quite below the IITs and to promote research among NITs student This initiative was taken forward.
