NIRF 2020 Ranking for NITs is a framework outlines a methodology to rank various institutions and universities across the country. The parameters broadly cover Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception.
On 11th June 2020, Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank‘ declared National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 via release on twitter handle (https://twitter.com/DrRPNishank). The same was updated more on NIRF official website From the same table, we have updated the NIRF ranks of NITs.

Giving a spectacular start to the rankings all the NITs, We have our First NIT from the land of eye-soothing architecture, Tamil Nadu, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli. It has tried to maintain its consistency over the years to lead the rankings for the NITs and we wish to see this consistency over the years again. NITT secured an overall 9th position in the NIRF rank.
Tracing our journey from Tiruchirappalli, we reach the land of the fragrance of sandalwood, Karnataka, taking the second lead we have National Institute of Technology Surathkal. It secured rank 4 in the year 2017, which made it thrive for best, and it has secured its place at the 3rd position consistently for two years that is 2019 and 2018. NITK secured an overall 13th position in the NIRF rank.
Our next NIT to lead is from the land of beautiful temples, the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Orissa. Over the years it has been successful in maintaining its consistency of being the best, but this year it downgraded to 3rd position. NITR secured an overall 16th position in the NIRF rank.
Retracing our steps from the beautiful temples to the state of the ‘Tehzeeb’ culture, Telangana, we have the National Institute of Technology Warangal. It secured a rank 4th among all NITs this year. It was on 3rd position in 2019 but saw a downfall in its rank in the year 2018, where it came to rank four and remained in the same position for 2019 too. NITW secured an overall 19th position in the NIRF rank 2020.
Paving a way through success we approach the Howrah Bridge, West Bengal, we have Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur with an overall NIRF rank of 21.
Moving on to the state of spices, Kerala, we have National Institute of Technology Calicut with a rank 7 in 2017 & then a subsequent downfall to rank 9 in 2018 & then again a rise of 4 places, securing 5th rank among all the NITs consistently for two years 2019 and 2020. NITC secured an overall 23th position in the NIRF rank 2020.
Coming on to City of Oranges, we have Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur. It secured rank 6 in 2017, and then it improvised on itself, reaching rank 5 in 2018 and then again downgraded to rank 6 in 2019 and it maintains its place at 6th position in 2020 too. VNIT Nagpur secured an overall 27th position in the NIRF rank.
Retracing to Pink City, we have Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur. It ranked 14 among all the NITs in 2017, and then improvising led it to rank 10 in 2018 and then 11 in 2019. It upgraded itself to 7th position in 2020. MNIT Jaipur has secured an overall 35th position in the NIRF rank.
Coming on to the famous war-place in Indian history, Kurukshetra, we have the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra. It ranked 12 in 2017 and showed tremendous growth in 2018 with rank 6 and then ranked 7 in 2019 and 8th in 2020. NIT KKR secured an overall 40th position in the NIRF rank.
We now move to the land of lush greenery of Tea plantations, Assam, we have the National Institute of Technology Silchar. It ranked 9th in 2017 and then downgraded to 12 in 2018 and putting in efforts it was able to secure rank 10 in 2019 and again an up-gradation led to 9th position in 2020. NITS secured an overall 46th position in the NIRF rank.
Now we again backtrack to the land of sweet delicacies, West Bengal. We have the National Institute of Technology Durgapur. It secured rank 10 in 2017 and upgraded to rank 7 in 2018 and then again downgraded to 9 in 2019 and 10th in 2020. NIT Durgapur secured an overall 47th position in the NIRF rank.
We now move to the Heart land of India with its delicious Awadhi cuisine, Uttar Pradesh, we have Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad. It ranked 5 in 2017 and then saw a downfall to rank 8 consistently for two years that is 2018 and 2019 and then to 11th position in 2020. NIT Allahabad secured an overall 48th position in the NIRF rank.
Let’s take a tour to the land of five rivers,Punjab, we have Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar. It ranked 20 in 2017, and its constant efforts led it to rank 15 in 2018, and then it downgraded four places and reached to 19 in 2019 and then upgrading to 12 in 2020. NITJ secured an overall 52nd position in the NIRF rank.
We now move to the land of Fafda Jalebi and Khakra – Dhokla adorned with Dandiya, Gujarat, we have Sardar Vallabbhai National Institute of Technology Surat. It ranked 8th in 2017 among all NITs but downgraded to 13 in 2018, and improvising led it to rank 12 in 2019 and it reached rank 13 again in 2020. SVNIT Surat secured an overall 53rd position in the NIRF rank.
Now moving to Scotland of the East, Meghalaya, we have the National Institute of Technology Meghalaya. It ranked 16 in 2017 & downgraded to 18 in 2018 & upgraded to 15 in 2019 and 14th in 2020. NIT Meghalaya secured an overall 61st position in the NIRF rank.
From Mountains, we trace our journey to Art &Sculptures, Madhya Pradesh, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal. It secured rank 13 in 2017 & then upgraded to 11 in 2018 but was downgraded to rank 14 in 2019 and 15 in 2020. MANIT Bhopal secured an overall 65th position in the NIRF rank.
Now, we move to land of Iron & Steel plants, Chhatisgarh; we have the National Institute of Technology Raipur. It ranked 18 in 2017, and its consistent efforts led it to rank 16 in 2018, and then it downgraded to 17 in 2019 and again reaching 16 in 2020. NIT RR secured an overall 67th position in the NIRF rank.
Now tracing on to the land of various fruit gardens and toy trains, Agartala, we have National Institute of Technology Agartala. It ranked 21 in 2017, and its consistent efforts lead it to rank 17 in 2018 and then 16 in 2019 and 2020. It secured an overall 75th position in the NIRF rank.
Now we move on to the dream vacation place of every student & famous for its beautiful beaches and nightlife, Goa; we have the National Institute of Technology Goa. It ranked 22 in 2017, and its consistent efforts lead it to rank 19 in 2018 and then 18 in 2019 and 2020. NIT Goa secured an overall 77th position in the NIRF rank.
From calm sea & beaches, we move to waterfalls and Jain Temples, Jharkhand, we have National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur It ranked 19 in 2017 and then it downgraded to 20 in 2018 and remained at the same place for 2019 too but it upgraded to 19th in 2020. NIT JSR secured an overall 79th position in the NIRF rank.
From temples, we cover a journey to the pilgrimage hub, Bihar; we have National Institute of Technology Patna. It ranked 17 in 2017, and its down-gradation lead it to rank 23 in 2018, and consistent efforts took it to 21 in 2019 and to 20 in 2020. NIT P secured an overall 92nd position in the NIRF rank.
We now move to different terrain,the mountains, DevBhoomi, Himachal Pradesh, we have National Institute of Technology Hamirpur. It ranked 11th in 2017, but a down gradation led to rank 14 in 2018 & putting in a bit efforts assisted in securing 13th position in 2019 it saw a great downfall in 2020 reaching 21st rank. NITH secured an overall 98th position in the NIRF rank.
From Indian culture, we move on to the French colony famous for its alcoholic beverages and stone beaches, Puducherry, National Institute of Technology Puducherry. It ranked 31 in 2017, and its consistent efforts lead it to rank 22 in 2018 and then 21 in 2019 and reaching 22 again in 2020. NIT Puducherry secured an overall 130th position in the NIRF rank.
Next, we have the state rich in culture and tradition, Manipur; we have the National Institute of Technology Manipur. It ranked 15 in 2017, and its down-gradation lead it to rank 21 in 2018 and then 22 in 2019 and 23 in 2020. NIT Manipur secured an overall 158th position in the NIRF rank.
From the rich culture of India we move to the Land of dawn-lit mountains, Arunachal Pradesh, we have National Institute of Technology Arunachal Pradesh. It ranked 27 in 2017, and its down-gradation led it to rank 28 in 2018 and remained at the same place for 2019 too it improvised upon itself and secured 24th rank in 2020. NIT Arunachal Pradesh secured an overall 200th position in the NIRF rank.
In order to conclude, we would congratulate all the NITs for their appreciable positions in NIRF rankings and heartily wishes “Best of Luck” for their future endeavours, institutional, technical and research development.
