The coronavirus outbreak came in front of the world on 31st December 2019 when China informed the World Health Organisation of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of an unknown cause in Wuhan City in Hubei Province. Subsequently, the disease spread to more Provinces in China, and the rest of the world. The WHO has now declared it a pandemic. The virus has been named SARS-CoV-2, and the disease is now called COVID-19
India’s COVID-19 death toll crosses the 18000 mark on Thursday amid a significant surge in new infections. More than 22000 new cases have been recorded after the home to home checking process. India recorded 22,045 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the country’s total caseload to 6,27,023, just a day after the count had crossed the 6 lakh mark. The death toll touched 18,213 with 379 deaths in the last 24 hours.
A first-year student of NIT Durgapur has been tested positive for COVID-19, and later his father too reported positive for the same on 1st July. They both tested positive at a private hospital in Kolkata.
Both of them sensed unwell as he lost his power of smell while father had cough, breathing problems and weakness. Right now, his health is fine and has mild fever and no other issue while his father’s health is not good. They are unaware of how they got infected, and the source is unknown to the family. The student has requested us to post this keeping his identity confidential. In contrast, He requests all NIT fraternity and everyone seeing this post to pray, especially his father, who is battling hard during this tough time.
The govt officials of West Bengal will take the samples of the rest of his family. The student is still in-home quarantine, while his father is admitted in the hospital.
He is the 2nd student from NIT community who has been tested positive for COVID-19. First was a Kashmiri girl from NIT Srinagar who tested COVID positive long back when COVID was at a very initial stage in India, and She quickly recovered in a short time and was able to attend classes via online mode.
